Robot Learning
“Intelligence is not what a model can say, but what a robot can finish.”

Marian Frei is a doctoral researcher in the Physical AI Lab at the Chair of Imaging and Computer Vision, RWTH Aachen University. He holds M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from the Technical University of Munich and RWTH Aachen University.

His research centres on robots that learn: foundation models that connect vision, language and control, so that a robot can carry a task through to completion on real hardware rather than executing a single isolated skill. He studies what these models actually achieve outside simulation, from which data is worth collecting and how progress should be measured to policies that recover from difficult starts and approach human speed, drawing on human motion and large-scale distributed training along the way.
